A quaint no frills space
with kitchenette,
refrigerator- and lots
of open space. The bed
was large and
comfortable, and the air
conditioning worked
well. We stayed at Nikos
three nights during
mid-August (the high
season for the Greek
isles). Our fourth night
we spent at a "luxury"
hotel in Firostefani on
the caldera side, and we
decided we preferred
Nikos to the
tourist-laden and
romantic genercism that
was Firostefani (and
Fira, and Oia, and
Kamari).
All rooms are on the
second-floor and have a
large private balcony
that faces the sea,
which is about a km
away. The balcony was
perfect for having
breakfast upon- we moved
the small table and
chairs located in the
room onto it and
frequently spent the
early mornings watching
the sunrise and taking
our first meal. The
staff is nice and
accomodating, but do not
expect a concierge or 24
hour service. The
wonderful thing about
Nikos is that it is away
from the throng of
tourists that swarm Fira,
it is clean, and
contains all of the
necessary amenities- but
luxury it is not. The
city center of Fira is a
mere 5 minute walk from
Nikos, and there is a
place to grab a bus
directly across from the
motel. However, beware
of the drivers as you
walk to the hotel, as
they are notorious for
honking at, or in the
alternative being
completely oblivious to,
pedestrians.There were
few (if any) other
guests while we were
there.
