Santorini Sightseeing
Santorini is home to some of the most impressive archaeological sites in Greece. With a Santorini map you will be able to mark the sites you want to see beforehand. The town of Akrotiri is most famous for the Minoan City of Akrotiri, which is thought by many scholars to be connected to the Lost Continent of Atlantis. It is an extremely well-preserved settlement with houses, store rooms and sophisticated drainage systems. Akrotiri Town also has a lovely Venetian Castle that is worth visiting.
Ancient Thira, located on Mesa Vouno Hill between Perissa and Kamari, is another superb archaeological site with remains of temples and other buildings. In Fira, we suggest visiting the museums (Prehistoric, Archaeological, and Folklore), as well as the Maritime Museum in Oia. Throughout Santorini there are many quaint churches and monasteries to admire, some of which are wonderful specimens of ecclesiastical architecture. Don’t forget to take a short boat excursion to the small islands of Thirassia,
Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni
(the volcanos), which are situated in the Caldera area, opposite Santorini Island.
